Truck rates moved strongly higher in south Texas and Arizona in early June, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reports.

The agency said June 4 the shortage of trucks was reported in Florida and a slight shortage was observed in Nogales, Ariz., California shipping districts, North Carolina and south Texas.

California’s Kern and Oxnard district truck rates increased 3% to 8% the week of June 4, but rates in south Texas surged as much as 15%.

Truck rates from Nogales, Ariz. to New York City jumped from $5,500 to $6,800 in the June 4 report,  a gain of 24%.
