The United Fresh Produce Association is seeking comments on an update to food safety guidelines for tomatoes.
The 54-page draft document on tomato food safety guidelines is out for public comment until May 4, Jennifer McEntire, vice president of food safety and technology for the United Fresh Produce Association, said in an e-mail. The draft and comment form are available at the United Fresh website.
The latest version of the tomato guidelines was published in 2008, McEntire said.
Updating the guidelines began last year at a kickoff meeting with more than 30 stakeholders representing producers, repackers, processors, buyers, academics and government officials, McEntire said. The final draft was released in early February.
