USA Pears is set to launch a campaign centered around pear pizza to kick off the 2019-20 Northwest pear season.

The campaign is scheduled to begin Sept. 14 at FEAST Portland, where USA Pears will team up with Rally Pizza, according to a news release. During the two-day event, attendees can craft their own pear pizzas at the USA Pears booth.

“We are longtime fans of putting pears on pizza, and we are looking forward to enlightening the good people of Feast Portland to the sweet and savory eating experience of pear pizza,” chef Alan Maniscalco, founder of Rally Pizza, said in the release.

The pizza campaign lasts until Oct. 15, according to the release. The campaign includes a consumer contest, restaurant activation, retailer tie-in and influencer campaign unified with the #pearpizza hashtag. The contest gives consumers a chance to win a Gozney Roccox pizza oven, according to the release. 

“We believe that pears, especially the 10 varieties that come from the Northwest, are a topping that will surprise and delight those who have never tried the combination,” Neil Ferguson, USA Pears/Pear Bureau Northwest communications specialist, said in the release. “It doesn’t matter if they’re making it at home or enjoying it at their favorite pizza establishments, we feel that the time is ripe for people everywhere to taste the joy of pear pizza.”
