The U.S. Department of Agriculture has filed an administrative complaint against New York Mart Group Inc., Long Island, N.Y., for failing to pay almost $900,000 to produce sellers.

The USDA Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act division filed the complaint alleging the company hasn’t paid 23 produce sellers about $896,000. The period of non-payment is from October 2016 to December 2018, according to a USDA news release.

New York Mart Group can request a hearing about the allegations, but if the USDA finds the company committed PACA violations, it will be barred from the produce industry as a PACA licensee for up to three years. Its principals could also be barred from the industry for up to two years, according to the release.
