The U.S. Department of Agriculture has imposed sanctions on five businesses for failure to pay after receiving sanctions under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act.

The companies, which are restricted from operating in the produce industry, according to a news release, are:

  • Peacock Produce LLC, Naples, Fla., for not paying $26,959 to a Virginia seller. Marcel Basso was listed as manager and/or member of the business.
  • COOQ Merchants & Consulting Inc., Miami, for not paying $11,305 to a Florida seller. Alejandro Badilla was listed as the officer, director and/or major stockholder of the business.
  • Mario Tenuta, Chicago, for not paying $15,540 to a Michigan seller. Mario Tenuta was listed as the sole proprietor of the business.
  • Utopia Produce Inc., Glendale, N.Y., for not paying $41,400 award to a California seller. Li Zhi Wang was listed as the officer, director and/or major stockholder of the business.
  • Haikeem A. Nelson, Breingsville, Pa., for not paying $14,662 to an Illinois seller. Haikeem A. Nelson was listed as the sole proprietor of the business.
