Packaging and equipment supplier Volm Cos. Inc. has acquired Atech Inc., Monte Vista Colo., focused on serving San Luis Valley potato grower-shippers.

Atech has worked with Volm in the past, with the Colorado company representing the Volmpack line of equipment in a local sales and service role and distributing packaging for Volm in the area.

Atech’s 7,200-square-foot warehouse will be occupied by Volm, according to a news release, and Volm plans to invest in resources and improvements at the facility. It will serve companies in the San Luis Valley in Colorado and beyond, as a regional Colorado hub for companies in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.

“This purchase allows us to increase our presence in one of the largest fresh potato growing regions in the United States,” Daniel Mueller, Volm president and CEO, said in the release. “We believe this higher ‘touch’ frequency with our customers will help us better understand the needs and ultimately be able to offer a Volm total solution service to this very important area.”

In the past year, other Volm expansions include a new facility in Pasco, Wash., and plants in Ancaster, Ontario, and Mexicali, Mexico, according to the release.
