( Domex Superfresh Growers )

Cherry harvest has begun in Washington state and Yakima, Wash.-based Domex Superfresh Growers has provided a snapshot of the season from the orchard.

With early districts in central Washington beginning the week of June 4, Dave Gleason, chief horticulturist for the company, reported in a Youtube video that cherries have had a good growing season in the spring and fruit quality is good, according to a news release.

Gleason said in the release that warmer spring temperatures prevented frost, creating good quality, size, and shape for the Northwest cherry crop.

Looking ahead to the fall harvest, the release said the warmer spring, combined with pruning and good orchard practices, should result in bigger apple sizes this fall compared with a year ago for Superfresh Growers.
