Washington apple specialty license plates will be available to order from the Department of Licensing July 1.
“We anticipate seeing thousands of Washington apples specialty plates on our highways,” Chris Willett, Washington Apple Education Foundation chairman, said in a news release. “The plates provide deserved recognition to growers, employees and all that have helped make Washington’s tree fruit industry world-class.”
WAEF receives $28 for each license plate sale and renewal. The funds will help provide scholarships to students raised in the industry.
“WAEF is unique in our approach to scholarships. Our goal is not to get kids to college. Our goal is for them to thrive in college and graduate on time with the skills and connections to launch their careers,” Willett said in the release.
More than $1 million is awarded by WAEF annually in scholarships. Proceeds from the apple specialty license plates will also support student outreach activities.
