Although Rio Rico, Ariz.-based SunFed has year-round programs, most of the company’s production is in winter, said Gretchen Austin, marketing director.

“After a successful fall season, our winter squash production is moving to Guaymas, in the state of Sonora,” she said in mid-November.

SunFed’s eggplant harvest also is underway, she said.

“We are now 100% protected agriculture on our eggplant,” said Frank Camera, vice president of operations. “The quality is better, there is no comparison,” added Matt Mandel, vice president of finance and legal.
