WISH FARMS: Marcus Caswell, senior account executive for Plant City, Fla.-based Wish Farms, shows off some Florida strawberries. The season is expected to go through March.

“It’s been a very slow start because of abnormally cold weather, but it looks like the next 10 days to two weeks we’re going to see kind of a break in the weather and production should start to increase, hopefully, right before Valentine’s Day,” Caswell said Feb. 2. “Hopefully we’re able to kind of catch that market.”

CHILEAN FRESH FRUIT ASSOCIATION: Karen Brux and Allison Myers with the Chilean Fresh Fruit Association talk with booth visitors about organic blueberries from Chile. “Organic blueberry volume out of Chile is growing exponentially every year,” said Brux, managing director of the association in North America. The season runs from November through March. The main promotion period is from January to early March.

MUSHROOM KING FARM: Joshua Ho, CEO of Manalapan, N.J.-based Mushroom King Farm, talks with booth visitors about growing practices and quality. The company specializes in shiitake mushrooms and also supplies maitake, king trumpets and others. The sliced shiitake retail pack is one of the favorite products of customers, Ho said.

WELL-PICT: Jim Grabowski, marketing manager of Watsonville, Calif.-based Well-Pict, speaks with booth visitors about when strawberries are going to be available in higher volumes. “Both Florida and California have been slowed down because of weather issues,” Grabowski said Feb. 2. He expects Well-Pict will have enough volume by the middle of February to cover all customer needs. Organic strawberries typically run from around the end of February through October or November.

The line includes reds, yellows and a mixed minis pack, and the company also offers organic onions. One of the features of the packaging for the company’s potatoes is its light-blocking technology, which keeps the vegetables from greening.

The pack contains organic potatoes, organic olive oil and organic seasoning. The kits come in two flavors: Zesty Southwest and Mediterranean Herb. The items launched about two months ago and are available from mid-October through mid-April.
