SMP SOUTHEAST MARKETING: Sweet potato planting will be delayed due to a wet winter, so it will be a tight crop, especially with the previous season’s shorter supply because Hurricane Michael interrupted the curing process, says Tim Edmondson (from left), who mans the booth of Vardaman, Miss.-based SMP Southeast Marketing Inc. with Trey Boyette and Jeff Axelberg. “Supply is already short anyhow, so there could be a gap late July, early August,” Edmondson says.

REICHEL FOODS: Michael Adams, national sales director of Reichel Foods, Rochester, Minn., gave attendees samples of fresh-cut gala and granny smith apples, which will be available in April in a 12-ounce package. The apple slices have a shelf life 22-27 days, he says.
