USDA announces big potato purchase

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has purchased more than 100,000 50-pound cartons of potatoes.

The USDA said the potatoes will be used for child nutrition programs and other food assistance efforts. The purchases were made on an f.o.b. destination basis, and deliveries contracted from Jan. 1 to July 31 next year.

The USDA said fresh potato purchases totaled 100,800 cartons at a value of $1.475 million. Per carton delivered prices ranged from $11.24 to $19.38 per carton, according to the USDA.
