Eco Convergence announces name change, construction of new facility
Eco Convergence Group has changed its name to Kalera and is building an indoor growing facility in Orlando, Fla.
The facility will be the single-largest indoor vertical farm of its kind in the Southeastern U.S., according to a news release. Construction is set to begin sometime during the fourth quarter of 2019.
Kalera produce is grown in hydroponic facilities and is expecting to grow more than 5 million heads of lettuce annually, according to the release.
“Having access to Kalera’s exceptional produce year-round opens up limitless possibilities to expand our menu and create new dishes that delight patrons,” Eric Martinez, Kalera executive chef, said in the release. “Many restaurants pride themselves on sourcing ingredients from farms 50 to 100 miles away. We are thrilled to say that we are sourcing our greens from 50 feet away.”
The company plans to build additional facilities as production expands, according to the release.
