Partnership brings Halopack tray format to U.S. market

Richmond, Va.-based tray sealing specialist Proseal America and Idaho-based co-packing company Hudson Blaise are partnering to bring the environmentally friendly Halopack tray format to the North American food market.

Hudson Blaise has started production of the trays, using the Proseal SKR tray forming machine to enable these to be assembled on-line for a fast and efficient tray-forming, filling and sealing operation, according to a news release.

Halopack is a fully hermetic cardboard tray that is suitable for both Modified Atmosphere Packing (MAP) and cool chain processing, with high barrier properties that maintain product quality and extend shelf life, according to the release.

The tray is manufactured from renewable or recycled cardboard, and the film can be easily separated from the paperboard to enable the majority of the pack to be recycled, the release said.

The release said Halopack is ideal for a wide variety of foods, including fresh meat, fish and poultry, snacks, salads, prepared fruit and vegetables, and ready meals.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Proseal to offer food customers such an innovative packaging solution,” Cody Griffith, owner and president of Hudson Blaise, said in the release.  “Halopack combines effective food preservation with high impact presentation and strong sustainability benefits, with Proseal equipment ensuring a fast and efficient filling and packing operation and delivering the high-quality seals for which the company is renowned.”
