SiCar Farms increases produce offering
Colima, Mexico-based SiCar Farms, best known for the limes it grows and markets, is expanding its offering of produce items.
During the past year, SiCar - formerly LimexSicar - has brought online about 100 acres of shadehouse-grown roma tomatoes. That was the first of three stages to be completed by 2018 and give the company about 275 shadehouse acres in roma, round and grape tomatoes as well as a packinghouse, according to a news release.
The company has also added 400 acres of fresh pineapple and plans to increase that acreage to supplement production for year-round supply.
"With over 25 years of growing and marketing limes, we are able to apply our same expertise as a grower and vertically integrated supplier to many other products our customers are seeking," CEO Luis Gudino said in a news release.
Over the past three years, SiCar Farms has added mangos, papayas, coconuts and organics to its repertoire, sourced from Colima, Veracruz, Jalisco and Michoacán on company-operated farms.
Jackfruit was recently added to the product list.
SiCar's expanded product line will be marketed under the SiCar Farms brand. The company will continue supplying limes, still marketed under the LimexSicar brand.
"Customers become comfortable with a label and with service level," Gudino said. "It's time consuming and costly to have to switch suppliers. Our efforts in expanding our line concentrate on providing more variety and more convenience to our customers – giving them the ability to source more products from the SiCar system they already know and trust."
SiCar Farms will promote its full line at the Produce Marketing Association Fresh Summit Oct. 14-16 in Orlando, Fla. The company has a marketing and distribution facility in Texas.
