Avocado prices still high
Avocado prices remain very high on lower volumes.
In late August, two-layer cartons of hass 48s from Mexico sold for $48.25, up from $21.25-22.25 last year at the same time, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
About 515 million pounds of avocados had shipped in the U.S. season-to-date as of Aug. 27, down from 531 million pounds last year at the same time, according to the USDA.
In the week ending Aug. 27, about 26 million pounds shipped, down from 40.5 million pounds in the same week last year.
