Ocean Mist Farms, Castroville, Calif., has started harvesting the Coachella, Calif., artichoke crop.

Traditional California artichoke harvest peaks in the spring, according to a news release, but Ocean Mist has developed a variety that performs well in the Coachella Valley’s winter temperatures and desert soil.

The company, which debuted a winter artichoke promotion in 2019, is focusing on nutrition in this year’s winter campaign, according to a news release.

Ocean Mist’s Get Up & Groove giveaway runs Feb. 3 to March 13, with 10 music-themed grand prizes and 25 secondary prizes.

“Now is the peak time to purchase artichokes,” Diana McClean, senior director of marketing, said in the release. “Because Ocean Mist is committed to being a helpful resource for our shoppers, we created a giveaway to align with our shoppers state of mind going into the new year — one that is health focused and set on encouraging active lifestyles.”

Through influencer partnerships, blog post and digital cookbooks, Ocean Mist is offering new recipes and cooking tips. Google ads and targeted social media will promote the giveaways and drive consumers to a new artichoke nutrition webpage.

The Destini locator tool on Ocean Mist’s website will also direct consumers to local stores carrying artichokes.
