United Fresh awards 2016 scholarships

The United Fresh Produce Association announced four recipients of the 2016 Frieda Rapoport Caplan Family Business Scholarship.

The scholarship covers airfare, hotel and registration costs for the four individuals to attend the United Fresh Washington Conference in mid-September, according to a news release.

The scholarship recipients are:

  • Carmela Beck, Driscoll's, Watsonville, Calif.
  • Domenick Buck, Anthony Vineyards, Bakersfield, Calif.
  • Tyler Clear, Deardorff Farmily Farms, Oxnard, Calif.
  • Lela Reichart, Sterman Masser, Sacramento, Pa.

The Frieda Rapoport Caplan Family Business Scholarship Program continues Frieda's partnership with United Fresh, and the scholarship includes participating in the Rising Leaders Program, designed to educate emerging leaders on public policy and advocacy.

"This year's scholarship recipients will engage in political advocacy activities, education and networking activities at The Washington Conference, where they will acquire the skills they need to be effective leaders on the issues that impact our business and the fresh produce industry," Jackie Caplan Wiggins, vice president and chief operating officer of Frieda's, said in the release.
