Ciruli Bros. ready to cross mangoes

Rico Rico, Ariz.-based Ciruli Bros. is preparing to cross its Champagne brand mangoes from Chiapas, near Mexico’s border with Guatemala, said partner Chris Ciruli.

Even though growing areas farther north have been experiencing rain and cold weather, growing conditions in the Chiapas area have been nice, he said.

“It’s a bright light at a time of doom and gloom,” Ciruli said.

He expects good volume to come into the U.S. during February, with shipments beginning by the middle of the month. Crossings will start about 15 days earlier than 2019, he said.

“The vegetable crop is definitely a setback,” Ciruli said. “We’re hoping the mango deal will flourish.”
