The bagging program at Gambles Ontario Produce at the Ontario Food Terminal in Toronto is really catching on, said marketing manager Sarah Taylor.

“Customers more and more are looking for convenience grab-and-go items,” she said.

“We have the ability to pack exactly what the customer is looking for.”

The company hand-packs more than 30 stock-keeping units, including lemons, limes, grapefruit and clementines in gyro bags and in overwrapped trays at a facility operated by a third-party partner.

Two-pound clamshells also are a popular packaging option, she said.

Gambles bags product under its Go Fresh label and in customers’ own private labels.

The company’s main customers are independent retailers in Toronto, Quebec and east to Newfoundland.

Gambles also serves a number of foodservice customers, including hotels, local restaurants and foodservice suppliers and wholesalers, Taylor said.
