Driscoll’s launches Sweetest Batch blackberries
Watsonville, Calif.-based Driscoll’s is shipping the latest berry in the limited-edition Sweetest Batch line, blackberries.
The premium blackberries follow Driscoll’s Sweetest Batch blueberries, strawberries and raspberries, according to a news release. Like all the company’s berries, they are exclusively bred by Driscoll’s network of independent farmers. Sweetest Batch blackberries are available now in select regions across the U.S. for a limited time.
The fresh blackberry category has experienced the largest berry growth in household penetration, increasing at 7.6 points over the last five years, according to the release.
“This new product innovation generates buzz and excitement for the entire blackberry category,” Annie Duner, product marketing manager, said in the release. “Flavor is driving the overall growth of the fresh blackberry category.”
The traditional blackberry has long been considered the “underdog berry” in the produce industry, Gavin Sills, global plant breeding director for blackberries, said in the release. “We’re on a constant pursuit to innovate and perfect different blackberry varietals.”
