Avocados from Mexico is partnering with tortilla maker Mission Foods with a Taco Tip Off promotion coinciding with the NCAA’s basketball tournament.

The program uses target in-store merchandising with coupons and a sweepstakes, and lasts through April 14, according to a news release.

Avocados From Mexico sites Numerator retail data that found 88% of avocado household also bought tortillas in the past year, and that when those two items were purchased in the same trip, overall purchases are 1.6 times greater.

"This sporting event is the perfect occasion to leverage in-store basketball championship merchandising and create an event that will drive impulse purchase for avocados as fans stock up for their in-home viewing gatherings," Stephanie Bazan, vice president of trade and market development at Avocados From Mexico, said in the release.

The Taco Tip Off promotion includes:

  • On-pack instantly redeemable coupons: $1.50 off two avocados from Mexico and a package of Mission tortillas;
  • Text-to-win sweepstakes: fans can enter to win $250;
  • Paid social posts: Instagram and Facebook posts will reach consumers; and
  • Digital instant rebate: consumers can scan receipts for instant rebates.
