United Apple Sales promotes Brett Baker, ups EverCrisp production

United Apple Sales, Lyndonville, N.Y., has promoted Brett Baker to corporate vice president.

He is a member of the U.S. Apple Export Council and the U.S. Apple Association’s board.

Joining United Apple in 2010 as international and domestic account manager and member of the executive management team, Baker has been instrumental in driving sales and operations initiatives, Ward Dobbins, president and owner, said in a news release.

“Brett has a unique background in the agricultural sector where he started as a fourth-generation grower with his family farms in New York, learning the business literally from the ground up, and later becoming the company’s general manager,” Dobbins said in the release.

After working at the family business, Baker Farms, he was an Aldi manager for more than 8.5 years.

“I am excited about becoming an owner with the Dobbins family, who has given me every opportunity to be successful with the company,” Baker said in a news release.

Production of the EverCrisp variety, developed by the Midwest Apple Improvement Association, has doubled this season, Dobbins said in another news release.

Size ranges from 72- to 80-count, “the preferred size range for many retail programs,” Dobbins said in the release.

Additional acreage was planted for EverCrisp in 2019, as part of the long-term plan to keep pace with the consumer demand for the new variety, a cross between Honeycrisp and fuji.

The late-season apple is available March to June, with increased weekly volumes.
