Earl’s Organic Produce speeds up shipping
Fair Trade-certified bananas are arriving at Earl’s Organic Produce in San Francisco more quickly this year than they had previously, said Rodrigo Velasquez, banana specialist.
“This year, our Ecuadorian Fair Trade banana is having a much shorter transit time, because our logistics have been great,” he said. “We can offer customers a much fresher banana. For the farmer, that helps them, because they receive the returns in a much shorter time.”
Transit times shrank from about 21 days to 12, starting in the last quarter of 2019, Velasquez said.
“The ocean liners now have a direct service; there’s a very good service from the South American west coast to the North American West Coast,” he said.
