Tomra Food demos go digital during pandemic

Tomra Food, which manufactures sensor-based machines to sort and grade fruits and vegetables, is using digital technology to debut a Virtual Test and Demonstration Center.

With customers unable to travel to its centers in Sacramento, Calif., China and Belgium, the company developed an alternative, bringing the centers to customers. They will be able to see the equipment in action, and throughout the session can interact with Tomra representatives via a video link, according to a news release.

“We are going through a period of unprecedented disruption,” Ashley Hunter, senior vice president and head of Tomra Food, said in the release. “In this situation, our foremost priority is to ensure that we support our customers’ ability to maintain a consistent supply of quality food while keeping our employees and, by extension our customers’ and suppliers’ staff, safe and well.

Tomra has taken other steps to provide customer support during the crisis, including increasing stock levels of critical components and spare parts, and implementing remote service and training tools.

“These are challenging times for all of us, both on a personal level and for our businesses, but it is vital that we keep up our collective efforts to keep the global food supply chain operating effectively,” Hunter said in the release.

More information on the Virtual Test and Demonstration Center, including how to schedule a demonstration, is on the Tomra website.
