Wild About Sprouts gives 6,000 cases to California food banks

Rä Foods Wild About Sprouts, Sacramento, Calif., donated more than 6,000 cases of fresh produce to Sacramento, Yolo, San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties to help during the COVID-19 pandemic.  

“Many people in our community may not have the luxury of going to a grocery store during this time and are relying on their local food shelf,” Dan Sholl, general manager, said in a news release. “We have a fresh produce item that has an amazingly long 21-day shelf life … so it’s a good fit for our community members using local food shelves.”

Since March 25, Wild About Sprouts has donated 2,538 cases to Sacramento County Food Bank and Family Services, 720 cases to River City Food Bank in Sacramento, 2,280 cases to Yolo County Food Bank and 1,000 cases to Second Harvest Food Bank, for San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties, according to the release. 

These donated cases equal 39,228 packages of fresh sprouts, the retail equivalent of more than $119,000, according to the company.

All six varieties of sprouts are going to food banks: the 100% clover, broccoli-clover blend, spicy blend of radish and clover, alfalfa, clover-alfalfa and 100% broccoli.
