The Produce Moms launches series for children during crisis
Without lunch at schools and salad bars, many children are eating less fresh produce at home during this time of COVID-19 online schooling.
In response to followers asking for more content encouraging children to eat fresh produce, Lori Taylor, CEO and founder of The Produce Moms, and her team launched a series for parents to use for preschool and elementary school students while schools remain closed, according to a news release.
The series, Eat Produce Like Your Favorite Animal, includes an at-home education tie-in with activity sheets, virtual lesson plans for educators, interactive social media content and simple, nutrient-dense recipes loaded with fresh produce.
“Eat Your Fruits + Veggies Like the Mighty Brown Bear” kicks off the curriculum with blackberries, spinach, sweet potatoes and other items.
Matthew Brooks, director of nutritional services at the Indianapolis Zoological Society, joined Taylor on her video blog, featured on social media.
“(We are) happy to use our voice and platform to heighten the awareness of this important work, and also connect the dots to where it’s a point of inspiration for people of all ages to eat their fruits and vegetables,” Taylor said in the release.
