Capespan crowns grower of the year
Capespan Group Ltd. has awarded its 2016 Western Cape Farmer of the Year award.
Jacques Beukes received the honor, presented in person by the Capespan team along with a gift, according to a news release.
Modderdrift Farm was established by the Beukes family in 1913 and grows table grapes in the Hex River Valley of South Africa. It offers more than 15 different varieties of red, white, and black seedless table grapes.
The Farmer of the Year award came at a time of expansion for Modderdrift Farm, as the company is building a packinghouse with cooling facilities and is working with Barbirwa Breeders (Pty) Ltd in the Brandwacht region to develop an additional 346 acres (140 hectares) of grapes, according to the company's Facebook page.
