Strawberry harvest in the Oxnard, Calif., region is ramping up, and The Oppenheimer Group is promoting two-pound containers of Ocean Spray-brand berries for Mother’s Day (May 10).

The company also sources strawberries from Salinas-Watsonville and will have Mexican strawberries until the second week of May, with production from the Santa Maria, Calif., area peaking in June and July.

Oppy plans to leverage the strength of the Ocean Spray brand and the popularity of California fresh berries for Mother’s/Father’s Day sales, according to a news release, with an array of pack sizes.

“Strawberries are a traditional part of spring celebrations honoring our parents, offering some much-needed normality, and parents this year have certainly earned some special recognition,” Jason Fung, vice president of categories of berries and greenhouse, said in the release.

“It’s an exciting time of year for our fresh program,” Chris O’Connor, vice president of marketing at Ocean Spray, said in the release. “Within the next few weeks, we will have Ocean Spray strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, citrus and grapes available for our customers to enjoy, meeting their needs with a familiar, trusted brand proposition in the produce section.”
