Misionero’s processing facility receives EFI certification
Misionero, Gonzales, Calif., has received Equitable Food Initiative certification for its processing facility in Gonzales.
The company’s facility in Yuma, Ariz., is undergoing the certification process as well.
Misionero received leadership and skill development training, and the facility had a third-party audit, according to a news release. Growers for Misionero are also going through the EFI certification process for certified leafy greens.
Kenton Harmer, EFI’s director of certification, said Misionero is the first operation in the Salinas Valley certified through the program.
“Achieving EFI certification proves the commitment of both Misionero and its staff,” Harmer said in the release. “The ability to work together to meet the industry’s most rigorous standards is a testament to the collaborative culture they’ve built.”
EFI reviews labor practices, and food safety and pest management programs.
“At Misionero, we’re constantly working to build and maintain a company culture focused on our employees and customers,” Donlon said in the release. “We could not be more proud of what has been accomplished. Our EFI leadership team is the key to meeting the EFI requirements, as well as ensuring we operate as a cohesive group, tackle issues head-on and live the standards every day."
EFI certification establishes greater transparency in the supply chain, develops worker-management collarboration, meets buyer requirement and highlights best-in-class practices, according to the release.
