Washington Apple Education Foundation scholars
The Washington Apple Education Foundation has awarded 310 students more than $1 million through its scholarship program.
The 2020 scholarship awards include 218 renewing scholarships. Scholarships were awarded to students in 11 counties throughout Washington and in Oregon’s Hood River County, according to a news release.
The scholarships are given to students whose families have ties to the tree fruit industry. In most instances, the parents of the recipients are employed in orchards and warehouses.
Nearly 80% of the scholarship recipients this year are first-generation college students, according to the release.
