Wholesum publishes Conscientious Company Report
Wholesum published its annual Conscientious Company Report focusing on sustainability efforts made in 2019.
“At Wholesum, we take a holistic view of our operations, and we continually look for ways to improve and innovate,” Ricardo Crisantes, chief commercial officer, said in a news release.
Publishing the report for the fourth year now, Wholesum shows comparisons of sustainability efforts from one year to the next.
Notable highlights in the 2019 report include recirculation of 11 million gallons of irrigation water in its production facilities, 2.2 million pounds of donated produce, 80 tons of plastic and cardboard recycled, $1.06 million generated in community development funds and a 4% increase in female farm managers, according to the release.
For 2020, Wholesum hopes to look at consumption patterns, identify used products and move to renewable inputs.
“As participants in the food supply chain, we have a responsibility in addressing the challenges of our food system such as climate change, resource and water scarcity and even social issues like inequality and community development,” Olga Borquez, sustainability manager, said in the release.
