Whole mango, fresh-cut mango, frozen mango sales seeing growth

National Mango Day is arriving on the heels of strong growth for sales of the fruit in the first half of 2020.

Whole mangoes have moved from No. 13 to No. 12 in the fruit category in volume velocity and from No. 20 to No. 17 in dollar velocity, according to the National Mango Board.

Whole mango volume is up 5%, with more than 200 million fruit mangoes sold, per the board. Fresh-cut mango had a 3.3% increase in dollar velocity, and frozen mango a 39.6% leap.

“We are so grateful to our retail produce partners for their immeasurable hard work to keep the nation’s food supply going during these challenging times, thus ensuring mangoes are available in store,” Tammy Wiard, retail marketing manager at NMB, said in a news release, “I also want to thank the NMB retail team for their passion and grit in working toward the continued growth of mangoes.”

National Mango Day is July 22.

“Despite the unprecedented impact of the current pandemic, we’re pleased to see retail growth for mangoes and increasing demand from consumers,” Manuel Michel, executive director at NMB, said in the release. “We are motivated and inspired to continue our work with the entire mango supply chain as we work toward our vision of mangoes becoming a daily necessity in every U.S. household. As we celebrate National Mango Day, we encourage everyone to enjoy this superfun superfruit. In addition to its amazing flavor, mangoes are nutritious, versatile and available all year long.”
