Village Farms employees volunteer at Orlando food bank
In the wake of Hurrican Irma, employees of Village Farms International, Heathrow, Fla., volunteered at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida in Orlando, Fla., according to a news release.
The employees sorted food donations that will be given to disaster victims in six Florida counties.
“Village Farms takes the business of growing food for people very seriously, so having the opportunity to give back to our local food bank who makes it a business of feeding people in need was a real pleasure,” Helen Aquino, director of brand marketing and communication for Village Farms, said in the release. “Our time spent here today really felt great and something we wish to partake in again very soon.”
Second Harvest Food Bank distributes meals through 550 local nonprofit feeding programs that target children and the elderly.
Village Farms grows greenhouse vegetables year-round in seven greenhouses in Texas and British Columbia, according to the release.
