Produce Mom launches school foodservice group
The Produce Mom launched a school foodservice marketing group, which will focus on marketing plans for National School Lunch Week.
The group, comprised of foodservice directors and staff, supports the 2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and wants to promote the under-consumed vegetable categories including dark green, red and orange vegetables and legumes, according to a news release. National School Lunch Week is Oct. 9-13.
“We are focused on building communities that are passionate about fruits and vegetables at The Produce Mom. Our newly-launched school foodservice cohort is an example of how we adapt our messaging and content offerings to best-serve each segment of The Produce Mom’s audience,” Kristin Ahaus, director of communications for The Produce Mom, said in the release.
Through interactive webinars and an online community, the group shares best practices for healthier lunches, according to the release. Lori Taylor, aka The Produce Mom, also has office hours for members to receive support or for collaboration.
The Smarter Lunchrooms e-Book, created in partnership with Sage Fruit Co., is a popular tool for group members and foodservice employees in implementing new strategies and menu offerings.
“I want all moms to have the same confidence I have in (U.S. Department of Agriculture) school meals,” Taylor said in the release. “Fresh-form fruit and vegetable offerings in the cafeteria are critical for increased produce consumption among children.”
