Salmonella cases in peach recall increase in Canada
The number of cases of salmonella linked to Prima Wawona brand California peaches has risen to 78 in the U.S. and 48 in Canada, according to health agencies in each country.
The outbreak investigation in both counties are continuing, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Public Health Agency of Canada. Those agencies continue to tell consumers to throw away peaches if they are unsure where they came from.
The peaches were last sold on Aug. 22.
The peaches were also shipped to distributors and retailers in Australia, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and the United Arab Emirates, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
“Investigators in Canada and the U.S. continue to collaborate to exchange information and identify commonalities in the outbreak information that may identify additional sources of illness or help to identify the cause of contamination in the peaches,” according to a Sept. 2 update on the investigation from the Public Health Agency of Canada.
