Crystal Valley Foods adds berry programs

Miami-based Crystal Valley Foods now has blueberry and blackberry programs.

The company is already shipping blackberries from Guatemala, and Mexican blackberries will ship from mid-September to May, according to a news release.

Blueberry shipments from Peru, Mexico and Argentina will begin in mid-September, and Chilean blueberries will be available from November to April.

“The acquisition of Team Produce earlier this year, a leader and one of the first in the import berry business over 30 years ago, has enabled us to expand our blackberry volume as well enter into the blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry categories,” Jay Rodriguez, president and owner of Crystal Valley Foods, said in the release. “Our advantage is not only our strong and long-term grower relationships but also that we source from a variety of countries and growing regions, enabling us to have significant volume at the beginning and end of the season.”

The company, which has traditionally focused on asparagus and specialty imports, plans to grow its berry programs in coming years.

“We are looking forward to good volume this year and will be looking to add other growing regions in order to have berry availability not only throughout the import season but also year-round,” Rodriguez said in the release.
