Ocean Spray brand blueberries from Peru are now certified by Fair Trade USA through marketer The Oppenheimer Group.

Oppy’s fair trade program began in 2004, generating $4.4 million in the last six years, and has a growing list of fair trade products, including bell peppers and cucumbers from Mexico, organic and conventional Peruvian grapes, and tomatoes, nectarines and mini peppers, according to a news release.

The Fair Trade USA certified blueberries from Peru are available through Oppy from September to December.

“Oppy has always been an advocate of produce with purpose, and the addition of organic, fair rade certified Ocean Spray blueberries to our program exemplifies our commitment to communities all along our expansive supply chain,” James Milne, senior vice president of categories and marketing, said in the release. “Our work closely mirrors consumer sentiment which indicated that 95% of consumers trust the fair trade certification over unverified sustainability claims.”

Oppy’s fair trade produce sales grew almost a third in 2019, generating $1.1 million for farmworker communities, according to the release.
