Santa Cruz, Calif.-based Awe Sum Organics is planning another strong season of organic grapes from Peru.

The season typically starts in December with harvest in northern Peru and extends through early April with southern grape production, according to a news release.

“Our growers’ organic vineyards in northern and southern Peru combine to provide a full supply all winter long of high-quality red, green and black organic seedless grapes that are all International Fruit Genetics trademarked varieties,” David Posner, president and CEO of Awe Sum Organics, said in the release.

“We also offer red globe grapes at much lower pricing than our seedless varieties for value-conscious organic consumers.”

The release said organic grape sales have been trending higher during the season, helped by Peruvian imports.

U.S. retail organic grape sales were up 125% during the 12 weeks ending May 17 compared with the same time in 2019, according to data published by the Produce Marketing Association’s Organic Produce Update on July 2,

U.S. Department of Agriculture statistics show that imports of Peruvian grapes (both conventional and organic) grew from $229 million in 2015 to $374 million in 2019.
