Paul Mastronardi, CEO and president of Mastronardi Produce, Kingsville, Ontario, received the Alf Bennie Award at the Leamington Business Excellence Awards.

The award recognizes Mastronardi’s leadership, innovative mindset, passion for the produce industry and philanthropic spirit, according to a news release.

Named after the first president of the Leamington District Chamber of Commerce, the award recognizes someone who has made a difference through volunteering or community involvement.
“Paul’s involvement in the community and the many philanthropic initiatives that have occurred under his leadership are admirable,” Wendy Parsons, general manager of the Chamber of Commerce, said in the release. “He is truly deserving of this award.”

Mastronardi’s leadership and support of employees and community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic played a large focus in the award, according to the release. He was recognized for his proactive approach to the pandemic, including the development of health and safety policies, such as the COVID-19 Taskforce and SHIELD Program, and ensuring the seamless operations of the company to continue to provide fresh produce.

Mastronardi and his family joined employees in packing and distributing donations of personal protective equipment and fresh produce to health care employees, delivery services and community food banks, according to the release.

The Leamington District Chamber of Commerce also cited Mastronardi’s involvement in charitable events that support local youth and promote the greenhouse industry.

“From the time my great grandfather immigrated here over 90 years ago, this community has given so much support to my family and has helped us grow into who we are today,” Mastronardi said in the release. “I am honored to be able to give back to the community and am humbled to have received this recognition.”
