LGS Specialty Sales celebrates 30 years
New Rochelle, N.Y.-based LGS Specialty Sales is celebrating 30 years of business.
Founded in 1990 with its first shipment of clementines from Spain, the company imports citrus, avocados, grapes and persimmons, according to a news release.
One year after its start, LGS launched the Darling Clementine brand. Today, LGS also offers oranges, lemons, minneolas, cara cara oranges and other fruits.
“It’s hard to believe that 30 years ago we imported our first shipment of clementines as a company,” Luke Sears, president and founder, said in the release.
LGS was an early starter of a year-round mandarin program and in developing the production and planting of w. murcotts in Chile, according to the release.
When avocados were approved to enter the U.S. in 1997 from Mexico, LGS hopped on board right away. The program soon evolved by adding avocados from Peru, Chile and Colombia.
LGS plans to continue developing categories and production of navels, grapes, lemons, minneolas and cara cara oranges, according to the release. LGS also plans to expand its own production of w. murcotts.
“Founding LGS in 1990 was the second-best decision I’ve made in my life,” Sears said in the release. “My best decision I ever made was marrying my wife Jane a year earlier.”
