Load of produce also carries record meth load at Nogales port
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Nogales, Ariz., seized nearly $2 million in drugs hidden in a semi-trailer of produce.
The truck was carrying bell peppers, pickles and cucumbers when it arrived at the Port of Nogales’ Commercial Facility on Oct. 2, according to a news release. Customs and Border Protection officers “conducted a thorough inspection and noticed anomalies throughout the floor of the trailer,” where nearly 650 packages of drugs were concealed.
There were about 800 pounds of methamphetamine and nine pounds of fentanyl, with a combined worth of nearly $2 million. It’s the largest methamphetamine seizure in Arizona port history, according to the release.
The driver, a 58-year-old Mexican national, was arrested
