Giumarra invites retailers to learn about Fair Trade at Fresh Summit
The Giumarra Cos., Los Angeles, and Fair Trade USA are planning an educational web seminar during the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit.
The Oct. 14 web seminar, “Ask Us Anything: Fair Trade,” invites retailers to learn about the program and ask questions they might have, according to a news release. October is Fair Trade Month.
Kellee Harris, Giumarra’s Western Region business director and fair trade liaison, said many buyers are interested in sustainability.
“A commitment to a fair trade program is one of the ways we can ensure a healthy future for both our people and our planet, showing consumers that our industry can make a difference by making every purchase matter, ” Harris said in the release.
The virtual setting gives retailers a unique opportunity to learn about fair trade and the positive effects on produce sales, worker welfare and environmental stewardship, according to the release.
The seminar begins at 11 a.m. Pacific/2 p.m. Eastern on Oct. 14. Participants are encouraged to sign up in advance.
The seminar will be recorded and available on the Giumarra and Fair Trade USA’s Fresh Summit Marketplace pages.
Fair Trade USA-certified produce available at retailers is growing year-over-year, with the first half of 2020 seeing a 19% increase from the first half of 2019, according to the certification agency. The seminar has three segments, starting with a Fair Trade USA representative describing the program, then Giumarra will present a case study of its program in Mexico, followed by a question-and-answer segment.
