New York Produce Show will be an online event

The New York Produce Show and Conference will be a virtual event.

The event, which was set for Dec. 9-11, will still take place on those dates, but online, said Susan McAleavey Sarlund, executive director of New York Produce Show co-sponsor Eastern Produce Council.

“We will have more details in the coming weeks, but all the major questions are answered for now,” Sarlund said.

The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan contacted show organizers this week, exercising the event contract’s option to reschedule show dates.

The center’s request was due to the state COVID-19 pandemic re-opening guidance, she said. Manhattan remains in Phase 4, which prohibits gatherings of more than 50 people.

Instead of rescheduling the show for 2021, organizers decided to present a virtual show on the same dates. The next in-person show is scheduled for Dec. 13-17, 2021, at the convention center, with the expo on Dec. 15, Sarlund said.

Exhibitors that signed up for the 2020 show will have their investment transferred to the 2021 New York Produce Show, and will be able to participate in the 2020 virtual event at no extra charge.

Organizers welcome new exhibitors and sponsors to the online show, which has the benefit of longevity and extra incentives, such as marketing, merchandising, management and procurement events scheduled throughout the year, plus special educational and training events.

The online show will continue “on demand,” 24 hours a day for the whole year through the live event next December.

Questions about the virtual event can go to the council’s office at easternproducecouncil@gmail.com.
