Bill Bishop, chief architect of retail consulting firm Brick Meets Click, will speak at the online West Coast Produce Expo about the growth of online grocery, how retailers are responding and what's ahead.

Bishop will discuss ways that retailers are adjusting their physical and digital operations to account for the accelerated growth of online sales, he will share perspective on Amazon’s continuing foray into brick-and-mortar grocery, and he will cover how retailers are using data to drive sales and basket building online.

The session featuring Bishop is scheduled for 12 p.m. CST on Nov. 11. Registration for this year’s event is free.

Brick Meets Click frequently conducts consumer surveys that provide an understanding of how behavior is changing related to in-store shopping and online shopping. Bishop is one of the best known consultants in grocery retail. Earlier in his career, he served as vice president of research at the Supermarket Institute, now FMI, and he later founded Willard Bishop Consulting and led major studies on new store formats, pricing strategy, loyalty marketing and more.

Bishop has a doctorate in agricultural economics and marketing from Cornell University, has taught on marketing channels at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and has served on the boards of Raley’s and The Food Institute.

Produce 2.0 'very important move in the right direction' for Walmart — The changes coming to Walmart produce departments should bolster the company’s grocery reputation and raise the bar for what shoppers expect from non-traditional grocers, analysts said.

Retail Perspective — Bill Bishop — Bishop joins editor Ashley Nickle to discuss recent development on the grocery retail scene, from the expansion of Lidl to Kroger's new partnership to the entry of Alibaba to the U.S. market. Bishop also talks about the path forward on packaging as retailers from Wegmans to Walmart commit to reducing plastic.
