Index Fresh, Riverside, Calif., is offering avocados treated with Apeel Sciences’ plant-based shelf-life extending product.

Index Fresh is emphasizing Apeel’s ability to reduce food waste and preserve flavor and nutrition of avocados. John Dmytriw, vice president of business and development at Index Fresh, said the company’s decision to use the Apeel treatment is about elevating the product and maintaining customer relationships.

“Anyone can sell someone an avocado once,” Dmytriw said in a news release. “At Index, we don’t define our success with clients by packages sold. We define success by the amount of time we’ve been working together. Ensuring best-in-class quality and consistency is a recipe for creating lasting relationships.”

Index Fresh has worked with Santa Barbara, Calif.- based Apeel Sciences for three years, according to the release, and “Index Fresh is always innovating with an eye toward providing clients what they want by embracing new technologies.”

The company will continue to provide customers “a full spectrum of choices in its Go to Market Business Strategy by continuing to offer both Apeel fruit alongside its traditional top-quality avocados.”

“Index Fresh is a ‘yes’ company,” Todd Elder, vice president of sales and marketing, said in the release. “We say yes to helping our clients every step of the way.”

Grower-owned Index Fresh was founded in 1914.
