Mission Jumbos address consumers’ growing use of avocados

Mission Produce, Oxnard, Calif., is launching Mission Jumbos, a pack of larger avocados that addresses the trend of consumers including more avocados in their diets.

Mission Jumbos expands the fruit’s lineup at the company, which also markets small and Grade 2 avocados as Mission Minis and Emeralds in the Rough.

“Consumers shop for their avocados based on how they plan to use them and who they’re feeding, and now they’re shopping for more people while making fewer trips to the store per week,” Denise Junqueiro, senior director of marketing and communications, said in a news release. “That’s where the Mission Jumbos shareable serving avocado comes in.”

Mission’s avocado lineup performs two-to-one compared to similar offerings by competitors, according to the release.

“Mission’s products and programs are based on consumer preferences, designed to draw consumer attention and grow sales,” Brooke Becker sales director, said in the release. “Retailers featuring any of the products from our lineup are seeing the profits.”

The Jumbos are sold in bags made with 12% less plastic, the first product in Mission Produce’s reduced plastics initiative.

“We spent countless hours perfecting the Mission Jumbos avocado pack with our R&D team and are extremely proud of the end product, which is something that both consumers and retailers can feel good about,” Patrick Cortes, senior director of business development, said in the release.
