Village Farms debuts Sensational Sara tomato

Village Farms has introduced Sensational Sara, a tomato variety it describes as having a stunning deep red color inside and out with a perfect balance of sugar to acid ratio.

Sensational Sara is larger than a cocktail tomato, but smaller than a tomato on-the-vine. Think of Sara as the child of Village Farms’ Delectable TOV and Sinfully Sweet Campari varieties, according to a news release.

Sensational Sara is packed on-the-vine into one-pound recyclable, compostable and biodegradable containers, with eight units to the case

Debi Street, vice president of variety development and Innovation, searches across the globe for unique varietals for Village Farms, according to the release.

“I am flattered that the seed companies I have established great relationships with over the years invite me to peek into their secret gardens where literally the seeds of innovation are blossoming,” Street said in the release. “When I first saw Sensational Sara I was stunned by her beautiful red color and juicy sweet flavor. Her taste profile, versatility, and shelf life are all a win-win and total game-changer for our retail partners with this consumer-centric driven tomato.”
