Dole Food Co. is adding 500 Star Cool reefer units from Maersk Container for shipping fruit.

The containers are enhanced with a “smart fresh air control system” called AV+, that allows the units to control fresh air intake by selecting a maximum level of CO₂ inside the reefer, according to a news release from Maersk Container Industry.

In cooperation with leasing company Textainer, Maersk Container is delivering 500 Star Cool units to Dole Food in January.
Dole chose the Star Cool units with AV+ because they are designed to maximize cargo freshness of delicate bananas and other fruit, as well as the reduction in energy consumption with the automatic ventilation system, according to the release.

“The delivery of these new Star Cool units will enhance our cold chain efficiency and allow us to deliver on our promise to our customers,” Ana Anchia, regional equipment manager for Dole, said in the release.

The reefers will be delivered at Qingdao, China.

“Dole prioritizes quality and innovation in all aspects of their business,” Anders Hold, Maersk Container Industry global head of sales and marketing, said in the release. “These are also values important to MCI and we are very pleased about Dole confirming their trust in MCI by expanding their operated Star Cool fleet once again.”
