United Fresh's Tom Stenzel on COVID-19 relief package No. 3
It's like a holiday gift your mom gets (somewhat) right: There are many key wins for the produce industry in the December COVID-19 relief package — and some losses.
A few days after Congress and the White House compromised on a third COVID-19 relief bill, Tom Stenzel, CEO of the United Fresh Produce Association, analyzes some of the key components that made, or didn't make, it into the bill, that impact the fresh produce industry the most.
The Paycheck Protection Program isn't industry specific, but small companies all across the food supply chain will benefit from the billions of dollars allotted to extending this program, Stenzel said.
And the same goes for what used to be called the Farmers to Families Food Box Program, which was also given money and an extension.
Restaurants and the related foodservice industry, almost flattened in cities with strict pandemic precautions, didn't get so much specific help, he said.
